Planning

Planning a trip can take ALOT of time if you are doing it yourself.  Make life easier by using one of the most valuable travel resources around, your smart phone!

There are tons of apps designed to help make your travel easier both in planning, meeting people, tracking expenses and keeping memories.

I’ve put together a list of my favourites for you to check out!

Please note these apps are for android. They may, or may not be available on iOS.

FIND YOUR FLIGHTS

I like to use a few different apps for find flights but my overall favourite is Momondo it’s easy to use. You can look at multi city combinations and apply filters to narrow down on what you really want to see. Keep in mind the more flexible you are, the better chance you have of finding a great deal on a flight.

When you are booking flights in a certain region. Ie. Asia, Canada, Europe always look at the regional carriers ie Wow air, Ryan Air, Air Asia etc. Many of these are not included in the bigger search engines and you have to go their website or download their app. Can save you loads of cash and add options!

Other apps I use:

Skyscanner

Hopper

FIND ACCOMMODATION:

There are a variety of apps to choose from depending on what type of traveller you are. I like to mix it up so have quite a few to cross check and find the best options at the best price.

PRO TIPS:

  • Different apps may have different prices.
  • Some apps have loyalty programs that offer you a lower price if you consistently book through them.
  • What is sold out on site may have rooms available on another.
  • Some regions will use certain apps you don’t know about. Google it!
  • Be aware of check -in / check out times /cancellation requirements

Booking.com

Hostelworld

AirBnB

Agoda

CURRENCY EXCHANGE:

It’s not always easy to convert or remember the exchange rate, especially if you are moving between countries.

I use Xe which can accommodate multiple currencies and can be used offline with the last known exchange rates.

TRACK YOUR EXPENSES:

When I had an iphone, I loved Trail Wallet and was quite disappointed that the Android platform wasn’t offered. I am going on my current adventure armed with Spending Tracker and Trabee Pocket.

FIND YOUR WAY:

Google Maps is a great tool. You can even download maps to use offline. Rome to Rio is another favourite that gives you a great amount of options and the rough cost.

TUNES TO ENJOY WHILE TRAVELLING:

Spotify premium allows you to download your favourite playlist to enjoy offline! If you are new, they usually offer a free trial period that can coincide nicely with your trip 😉

TAKE PANORAMIC PICTURES:

One of the things I miss about my iphone was the 360 panoramic pics!! Fortunately after much trial and error, I’ve found one that’s pretty good. Give P360 at try and make your friends at home wish they were there!

Happy Travels !
